Roy Campanella, Dodgers catcher, was paralyzed after car accident in 1958
Roy Campanella the dodgers catcher had an car accident in his rental car in Brooklyn just a mile from his Glen Cove home on North Shore of Long Island on January 1958 at 12:15 A.M. due to the icy road conditions. Campanella lost control of a rented car on a patch of ice on an S-curve in Long Island, N.Y. Campanella suffered a broken fifth vertebra in his back, costing him almost complete use of his body below the shoulders.”
Doctors preformed surgery on him, doctors thought they could perform the surgery and he could possibly play baseball again, but the surgery failed and was paralyzed for life.
